MOKUTAN Kobo "Koshihikari" Donated to a Children's Cafeteria

The Musasino Group's MOKUTAN Kobo is working to maintain the rich woodland environment close to the village by maintaining the back hills around the Musasino’s Shirakawa Works, through charcoal production, and cultivation of rice and buckwheat.

MOKUTAN Kobo has also begun donating a portion of the harvested rice to a children's cafeteria. The children's cafeteria program in Japan offers free food to low-income Japanese children.

In 2021 and 2022, Musasino donated a total of 2,050 kg of Koshihikari rice to children's cafeterias in Shirakawa City, Fukushima Prefecture and Ota Ward, Tokyo. As the number of people who are being helped has increased due to the Covid 19 pandemic, Musasino plans to respond to requests for additional donations.

More than 20 years have passed since Musasino began acting on the concept of contributing to the environment and local communities, helping protect the satoyama and conserve the ecosystem, as well as support farming when there is a lack of successors.

In recent years, Musasino has added food aid to our activities, even if only in a small way, and we are happy to see that our activities are helping to achieve the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).
